Google: "We do updates all the time" – somewhat confirming the February update rumors

Earlier this week, we reported an unconfirmed update to the February Google search algorithm . In response to questions about an update, Google's Danny Sullivan said on Twitter Thursday morning, "We do updates all the time". He then referred to the company's advice given around the November update which Google described as "several updates".

Google response. Sullivan answered several questions regarding rumors of a February update on Twitter early Thursday morning. Here is one of the answers, but they were all the same:

Was there an update ? Well, yes, Google said, "We do updates all the time." But this was not classified as a "general update". Google generally announces these major updates now. But that doesn't mean Google didn't release an update (or updates) last weekend that had an impact on the base rankings in one way or the other. ;another. Data from tool providers and the SEO community reflect wide fluctuations in rankings between February 7, 2020 and February 12, 2020. We illustrated and summarized many of these in our original story . Previous statements by Google. Here are Google's previous statements about this November update:

Nothing to do and nothing to fix. So, with these updates this week, Google is saying again that there is nothing you can do or that you can make fixes to fix things. Which worries me a bit about the 25% decline that TechTarget experienced with the November update. The company has told us it is making technical changes to try to fix it, but will it matter?

What was this update? This is the big question. It lasted longer than most other unconfirmed updates. In fact, in some cases, it looks like Google was able to release an update or a few updates on Friday evening, and then perhaps reverse it a few days later. Of course, I am not sure, that is just a guess. But I have seen several graphs of specific sites which appear to have recovered. Here is one:

You can see a decrease in traffic on the 7th and an increase in the 12.

There is got an update. So yes, there was an update, but again, we have nothing to give Google to give you. For now, you just know that if you saw a lot of ranking changes in the past week, you weren't alone. Why we care. Sometimes with Google updates, Google can give us advice or areas to look at. Other times, Google will tell us that there is no advice, just go improve your site . Anyway, it's also good to know that a bigger update has impacted many other sites and maybe you haven't done anything specifically to do it go up or down your ranking in organic Google search results.
